REGULAR MEETING 21ST JULY 2020
The national suspension expired on 17th July which determined that, providing all the necessary Covid 19 conditions were met, we could meet on our regular meeting date of the 21st July. Thanks to the concerted efforts of a few, Blenheim House was deemed Covid secure, so meet we did.
It was a very emotive and emotional night as the date coincided with the senior member of the Lodge, W Bro James K Batty celebrating 50 years of membership of the Lodge specifically and the craft in general. Believed to be only the second such brother to attain this distinction in the 152 years that the Lodge has been in existence. The best laid plans were put to one side and the 17 hardy souls who were in attendance heard the Secretary read the minutes of the meeting held on 21st July 1970, the date of WBro Jim's initiation plus a resume of his masonic career to date. His son, W Bro Nicholas Batty then invited his father on to the floor of the Lodge. WBro Nick, in presenting the certificate, spoke with great love and affection of his dad, providing a memorable and very touching tribute to him, on this special occasion. The brethren present were all noticeably affected by the sincerity of W Bro Nick’s presentation and gave them both a well-deserved heartfelt round of applause at the conclusion. WBro Jim then answered a few questions from the brethren present and he also explained some of the aspects of his masonic history, read out earlier by the secretary.
At the close of business the brethren repaired to the bar of a glass or two together with a tasty cake that was suitably adorned with masonic emblems to mark the occasion. Sadly no Festive Board but hopefully that will be righted in the not too distant future.
That re-opening lasted all of 7 days and then we were put back into full lockdown - and there we were to remain until September2021.
RESUMPTION AT LAST
REGULAR MEETING 21 SEPTEMBER 2021
Everything comes to he who waits - well we are finally back in business.
The first meeting was understandably quiet as members still are exercising caution although signs are good. Still plenty of Covid cases about but thankfully, in the main, there are fewer serious cases, hospital admissions and deaths. We have lost no one the Covid but we did see the passing of of our senior, in age, member W Bro Gordon Hibbert last Christmas Day after protracted illness which eventually took him from us. He had been a very faithful member in all aspects of Lodge life and will be greatly missed.
As said our opening meeting was quiet as it dealt with a myriad of legal and technical requirements which had accumulated over the shut down. This was followed by a very relaxed and enjoyable Festive Board.
REGULAR MEETING 19 OCTOBER 2021
Tonight we are to be addressed by W Bro Jim Batty who will talk us through his contributions the the Provincial Newsletter in its early years.
