REGULAR MEETING 18th MARCH 2020
In accordance with instructions from UGLE this meeting and all forth coming meetings, regular and practice, have been suspended until further notice due to the wretched Coronavirus pandemic.
Hope all our members, wherever they may be, masonic friends, family and friends - in fact everyone stay safe and well.
We WILL return later in the year.
And return we did :-
REGULAR MEETING 21ST JULY 2020
The national suspension expired on 17th July which determined that, providing all the necessary Covid 19 conditions were met, we could meet on our regular meeting date of the 21st July. Thanks to the concerted efforts of a few, Blenheim House was deemed Covid secure, so meet we did.
It was a very emotive and emotional night as the date coincided with the senior member of the Lodge, W Bro James K Batty celebrating 50 years of membership of the Lodge specifically and the craft in general. Believed to be only the second such brother to attain this distinction in the 152 years that the Lodge has been in existence. The best laid plans were put to one side and the 17 hardy souls who were in attendance heard the Secretary read the minutes of the meeting held on 21st July 1970, the date of WBro Jim's initiation plus a resume of his masonic career to date. His son, W Bro Nicholas Batty then invited his father on to the floor of the Lodge. WBro Nick, in presenting the certificate, spoke with great love and affection of his dad, providing a memorable and very touching tribute to him, on this special occasion. The brethren present were all noticeably affected by the sincerity of W Bro Nick’s presentation and gave them both a well-deserved heartfelt round of applause at the conclusion. WBro Jim then answered a few questions from the brethren present and he also explained some of the aspects of his masonic history, read out earlier by the secretary.
At the close of business the brethren repaired to the bar of a glass or two together with a tasty cake that was suitably adorned with masonic emblems to mark the occasion. Sadly no Festive Board but hopefully that will be righted in the not too distant future.
That re-opening lasted all of 7 days and then we were put back into full lockdown - and there we still remain.
The optimism mentioned last month concerning the resumption of of meetings is looking ever closer. The suspension is to ne lifted after May 17th but with restrictions still in place. The Lodge membership have decided that they wish to remain closed until after the summer recess, resuming in September. This will allow for all the membership to be fully vaccinated and the remaining restrictions over numbers attending and the dining arrangements to be back to normal. We anticipate being able to meet socially during the intervening months.
